Mama bears trip to the hospital

Monday started off well. I went for a walk with the kids, had a look at some flowers, nipped in Asda and bought far too many 'bargains' that I probably don't need. Earlier in the week I had been a bit ill but was feeling on the mend, so it was nice to be out with the boys.

Later that day my mum had to phone an ambulance for me, I won't go into too much detail all you need to know is I was in extreme pain and I clearly wasn't on the mend. A few years ago my main feeling at this point would of been fear that I was having to go in an ambulance and that there was something wrong with me, however now I have children my feelings have changed. While I lay on the sofa writhing in pain, sweating and crying my only feeling was guilt. Guilt, that my beautiful Mr S and Mr B were having to see their mummy like this, that they were going to see paramedics take their mummy away. Mr S is old enough to understand that something is wrong and that mama is being taken away in a chair, but not old enough to explain why.

Once I was in a&e waiting for results and letting my pain relief take hold I had a lot of time to think. It's amazing how once you have produced little people your thought process changes completely. Pre babies I would have been frightened that I was all alone in the hospital as there was no one to come with me and that there was talk of a very scary lumbar puncture, post babies I was wracked with worry that I hadn't had time to prepare a nappy bag for my mum due to the sudden onset of pain. While the doctor was telling me what they were going to poke and prod next, I was honestly lay there thinking if my mum would be able to find wipes and dummy's.

Obviously all my worries were unnecessary as super gran to the rescue, handled both of them like a pro, wipes or no wipes. No matter how many times she messages me to tell me the kids are fine and sends pics of them eating and playing I still worry. Worry that my mum shouldn't have to be looking after 2 under 2 for such a long period of time, (hubby is working and they have kept me in), to the point that I find myself bargaining with the nurse for an early release, (I'm aware I'm not in prison, however with barred windows that don't open and a woman who swears more than me in the next bed, I may as well be). So many nurses, doctors and everyone else in uniform asked if I had children, to which my answer was clearly, "yes I have two under two", every healthcare professional gave me the same answer, "well, I can see why your here putting up with that then". No offence intended but I can see why those people went into healthcare and not stand up!

In fact, I told hubby to stay at home with the kids instead of visiting me, that was partly because I wanted my mum too have a break from my monkeys and partly because when he does visit he is a pain in the butt. He literally becomes a child, trying to pull a Moonie at me before the doc comes back in, making glasses out of pill cups. I asked him why he acts this way as he was the same when I was in labour. “I’m trying to distract you from feeling ill”, trust me hubby seeing your butt crack isn’t helping me feel un-ill.

Luckily I'm home now and everything is slowly getting back to normal, although I feel like I've gone ten rounds with Mike Tyson. The boys are none the wiser to my pain, in their eyes I have just been to the shop. In the past I probably would have spent the next few days in bed feeling sorry for myself and enjoying the pain relief. Times have changed. I am having to grit my teeth and smile through the pain while entertaining my boys, I have no other choice, but I wouldn't have it any other way, (well maybe hubby here but the penny's won't earn themselves). In fact, the nurse gave me some sick bowels for my journey home, which thankfully I didn't need to make use of, so that was our morning sorted, a nice sit down activity where mama bear could semi rest, sick bowel hats.

Good day to you x

Mama bears cubs

A Mum Track Mind

I know all of us mama’s go through those pain in the butt moments where you question why you chose to have children at all. Luckily our babies have this way of looking at you seconds later that send all those negative thoughts floating away. This week has been filled with those moments in our house. Here’s a few for you to be going on with.

Today I was taking a really important phone call. Mr B was in bed so I put Cbeebies on and offered Mr S a candy coated bribe. I was on the phone no longer than 5 minutes with my back turned on him. In that time Mr S tipped out the contents of my bag, ripping every piece of paper he found, including my emergency £5.00 note. Cheers for that son.

Yesterday while at work I received pictures of some sort of weird substance on the floor. Moments later hubby phoned me to tell me what that substance was. The jelly out of a nappy, which Mr B had proceeded to play with and eat. Clearly nap time was just too long without food for him. Needless to say that with all that jelly in his belly he wasn’t very hungry for the rest of the day.

In the moments it took me to clean the bottles Mr S decided to take a rummage in the rubbish, which he had seen me throw the tiniest bit of chocolate into that morning. When I walked back into the room his face and hands were covered in chocolate, then Mr B stuck his head out from behind him also covered in chocolate. I swear it was the equivalent of 1 maybe 2 cubes of chocolate and yet they were both absolutely covered in it. I suppose I can look on the bright side; my children are good at sharing.

My boys have always been good with each other and as they get older they are getting cuter and funnier together. We were very lucky that Mr S just took to Mr B as soon as he arrived home, as if they were already best friends. We never had the jealous moments that you read about, although I know there is time. They are such good friends, that at the ages of 10 months and 23 months they are already working together to get their own way. I watch them sometimes when they think no one is watching, I swear they have their own brother baby language. They also copy each other. If one screams the other does, (this is not fun when you’re out in public dragging along two screaming babies), when one does something funny the other does and they even poop at the same time.

That’s the joys of having two under two. The funny things are twice as funny, the annoying moments are twice as annoying and the diarrhoea is twice as runny. There are other things which come along with having two under two as well.

11.       Every time you go out at least one person will make the comment “oooooooooooo you have your hands full”, yes I do thanks for reminding me. Then there is the even more annoying question “was it planned?” Why thank you for showing such an interest in mine and my husband’s sex life. Something like that was a private and personal decision between myself and my hubby, not something I want to discuss with a random lady in Asda.

22.       Being expected to just know how to manoeuvre a double pram through singe doorways and busy shopping centres. Those things should come with L plates, if only to justify bumping into people. I love my double buggy. I have a one on top one below style, which isn’t too wide. I chose this one after a family friend, Mrs S, told me a story of her double pram. She had a double stroller, side by side, around 18 years ago, she told me she would go out with the pram and would have certain shops and places she couldn’t go in, as the door was too small.

33.       They take it in turns to wake up ridiculously early. I truly believe they must discuss it during bath time or something. I have this image of Mr B Chewing away on his bath boat and signalling to Mr S, “listen I’m a bit tired tonight, will you start screaming at around 4am tomorrow let me have a little lie in.” It wouldn’t be as bad if you could get them back down, however it doesn’t work like that. If we don’t get to them within 30 seconds of them opening their eyes, they scream blue murder and wake the other up. Then there is no getting back to sleep. That or they sneak in our room and wake us up like this ......

44.       Tummy bugs – when your baby has a tummy bug there is so much liquid crap, when you have two, oh my god. There is so much brown liquid knocking about that I may as well change my name to Nappy changer Mc’Shit catcher.

i           I may poke fun and joke but in all honesty I adore my boys relationship and the bond they have. It can be bloody hard work having 2 under 2 but I honestly wouldn't have it any other way.

                                          Good day to you xx

Hello from the other side

I will start with an apology to everyone who enjoys my blogs as they have been few and far between as of late. I am now feeling much more adjusted to being a working mummy so I promise I will find the time to put together these few paragraphs of my rambling and ranting more often.

This weekend I had a psychic night. I organised for a lady to come round to the house to give a reading for me and 7 others. I was worried that she might be rubbish and the night would end with everyone giving me daggers for inviting her here. Luckily she was very good and I think everyone went away having listened to something that interested them.

My biggest ‘wow’ of the night came from the spirits, the lady told me she had my grandad in the room and did I have any questions. Now to understand my questions you need a slight back story.

My grandad came down one morning, handed a plate of cheese and crackers to my mum that he had picked up on the way down, she had left the plate in the living room from the night before. My mum took the plate off him and said “ooo I bet that cheese stinks”. My grandad laughed and walked into the sitting room I presume to sit and watch television. A couple of minutes later he had died.
The doctors told us he had an undetected heart condition which had been the cause and that his passing would have been very quick, but as he was on his own I would never know if that was true. So I asked the psychic to communicate one simple question. Was he frightened?

What came next amazed me. The lady told me that my grandad was holding his chest to show her it was his heart. “he wasn’t frightened, it happened so quickly he didn’t know what was happening until he was in the spirit world”. I was so happy to hear this information and she had more. She told me he was a quiet man and that he was standing back waiting to be spoken to before he spoke, not only is this a perfect description of Grandad C, it has also been said to my dad by a different psychic in a different town. She went on to tell me he was a smoker, then correcting herself saying he doesn’t smoke but he smells of it, (my nana smoked, A LOT).

Psychic asked if he grew tomatoes, at this point my tears cleared as I broke into fits of laughter. My grandad loved his Sunday morning visits to Aldi and one morning he came back with a tomato plant. He didn’t follow the planting instructions and basically we knew nothing would ever grow. We told him this but he was adamant it would. One afternoon me and my dad hung cherry tomatoes on the plants branches and shouted grandad out to see what had happened over night. He was so happy, “bloody hell they have grown fast”. This lasted a couple of minutes until he realised what we had done. He laughed and called us “bloody foolish”.

The strangest part of the evening was when she told me my eldest son had some psychic ability himself. She told me that Mr S sees my grandad all the time, as strange as this is, I believe her. On several occasions Mr S has sat laughing at thin air, waved saying goodbye to nobody and despite the fact he never met my grandad, he can point him out in any picture. Psychic went on to tell me that Mr S has something rocking in his room, (Mr S has a rocking horse which recently he has been riding on, in the dark, at night. Only me and hubby know about this), she explained then when Mr S sits on this at night he is with Grandad C and is being read stories about my favourite wizards, (my favourite book/film is Harry Potter.)
I found real comfort in her words and was stunned by the things she knew. I know some people dislike the whole idea of psychics and ‘spirit worlds’, which I understand. It is very easy to be sceptical about something you can’t see with your own two eyes. I also understand why some people think it is a bad idea, I heard the things I wanted, but what if I hadn’t. How would I feel if the answers she gave me made my grief worse, or if my loved one wasn’t there at all? I personally really enjoyed the whole evening and have lots more tales and predictions from her, far too many to tell. I will be seeing this lady again when my mother-in-law, who lives in Australia, visits England later this year. My mother-in-law is currently very happy as the psychic told me that we would be moving out to Australia in the future, Tina as much as I love you and Steve I wouldn’t build your hopes up, I’m a home bird, plus I like chippy tea too much.

Good day to you xx
